O Departamento Nacional de Obras Contra as Secas no Piauí resolveu abrir as comportas da barragem Piaus para minimizar os efeitos da estiagem na região de Alagoinha do Piauí. O pedido foi feito pelo prefeito Pedro Otalício.

A barragem acumula atualmente 35 milhões de metros cúbicos, cerca de 85% da capacidade total do reservatório.

As águas da barragem vão abastecer os rios da região de Alagoinha, Monsenhor Hipólito, Francisco Santos e Santo Antonio de Lisboa.

Porém, os produtores rurais que plantam nas áreas de vazante estão reclamando, já que a água irá inundar as plantações. O presidente do Sindicato dos Produtores Rurais, José Aldi Lima, faz um apelo para que o órgão suspenda a abertura das comportas.

O prefeito tranquiliza a população e diz que pode baixar a vazão para que as áreas de vazante não sejam atingidas.
