“Você tem uma nova mensagem no WhatsApp”, diz o gadget* do smartphone. Em fração de segundos a atenção foge completamente do conteúdo ministrado em sala de aula e adentra no ciberespaço, que está recheado de novas possibilidades de interação.

A cibercultura, aqui entendida como novo ambiente comunicacional que surge com a interconexão mundial de computadores, vem desafiar o professor diante da necessidade de educar o cibercidadão, que está imerso neste novo espaço de interação, sociabilização de ideias, comunicação, de produção e acesso a milhares de informações.

O professor que está acostumado ao processo tradicional de transmissão de conhecimento, passa a viver o duelo entre identificar esta “nova” cultura e estes “novos” espaços como aliados ou vilões no processo de ensino e aprendizagem.

A realidade é que não estamos preparados para lidar com os “ambientes virtuais” e muito menos para transformá-los em ferramentas de construção de novos conhecimentos, mas esta é uma necessidade urgente. E o desafio não para por aí, mais do que fazer uso destas demandas sociotécnicas de aprendizagem interativa, precisamos utilizá-las na formação de cidadãos.

A cibercidadania é definida por Howard Rheingold como “um contrato de representação social num caráter informal e não-escrito”, logo, são normas, valores, direitos e deveres refletidos na esfera do mundo virtual. Pierre Lèvy definiu o conceito como “um conjunto de técnicas, de práticas, de atitudes, de modos de pensamentos e de valores no ciberespaço”.  

Mesmo entendendo que os valores, normas, deveres do ambiente não virtual, se estendem para o ciberespaço, este conceito se torna paradoxal aos que se dizem “cibercidadãos”, que disseminam falsas acusações e falas preconceituosas no espaço virtual, que violam a intimidade alheia com a reprodução de conteúdos de caráter privado, entre outras ações. 

Falhamos na formação desses cidadãos?

A formação do cidadão está vinculada a uma didática de valores que não se aprendem nas instituições de ensino apenas, mas, sobretudo na consciência ética, edificada nas relações sociais. Construir cidadania é também construir novas relações e consciências.
