Em plena semana em que se comemora o Dia Internacional da Mulher os números de assassinatos praticados contra representantes do sexo feminino no Piauí em 2011 mostram que o Estado tem muito que evoluir na questão dos direitos das mulheres. Entre primeiro de janeiro e 31 de dezembro de 2011, 33 mulheres foram mortas em todo o Estado.
Os dados são da pesquisa dos homicídios dolosos do Piauí, realizada pelo Sindicato dos Policiais Civis de Carreira do Piauí (Sinpolpi) com o objetivo de medir a violência e cobrar soluções por parte do Governo Estadual.
Ao contrário da pesquisa mensal que mostra quase sempre um maior número de assassinatos na Capital, quando se trata apenas de mulheres, o interior registrou o maior número de crimes, com 24, ficando Teresina com os outros nove casos. Picos e Elesbão Veloso estão entre os municípios do interior que registraram o maior número de assassinatos: três.
A metade dos delitos, tiveram como possível motivo, o ciúme e o sentimento de posse. Em os outros casos, 10 deles o motivo ainda era desconhecido no momento em que os dados foram coletados. A pesquisa é realizada mês a mês com base nas informações divulgadas pela imprensa do Piauí, principalmente os jornais impressos e os portais de internet.
A pesquisa mostra ainda que os meses de maio e dezembro foram os que mais registraram assassinatos de mulheres, com cinco casos cada um. Em maio, por exemplo, foi registrado o assassinato de Maria Eliane Pereira Gomes, 25 anos. Ela foi morta com pedradas na cabeça e o corpo foi encontrado em um matagal na região do bairro Cidade Leste, em Teresina. Já em dezembro um dos crimes teve como vítima professora Antônia Rosiane Mota, cujos restos mortais foram encontrados no povoado Mendes, município de São Miguel do Tapuio. Os meses de janeiro, fevereiro e outubro registraram um assassinato cada um deles.
O mês de agosto registrou quatro assassinatos de mulheres. Dentre eles, a pesquisa cita a morte da estudante Fernanda Lages Veras de 19 anos encontrada sem vida em uma obra da zona Leste de Teresina. A pesquisa registrou a morte de Fernanda como um assassinado cometido com barra de ferro e cujo motivo ainda era desconhecido.
Segundo os responsáveis pela pesquisa, apesar da Polícia ainda não ter concluído se Fernanda foi assassinada, cometeu suicídio ou sofreu acidente, o seu caso já foi incluído porque as primeiras informações divulgadas pelos meios de comunicações já tratavam o fato como assassinato.
Dentre as ocupações, a maioria é dona de casa, mas há também funcionária pública municipal, estudantes, uma cantora, duas garotas de programas, uma professora, dentre outras.
